The Opportunity:

Join Us as Research Communications Manager – Driving Impact Through Storytelling and Strategy

We’re looking for a Research Communications Manager to help shape and share the ground breaking work of the LifeArc Centre for Rare Respiratory Diseases and our Pandemic Science Hub (PSH) based in the Institute for Regeneration and Repair. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in initiatives that are transforming the future of respiratory health and delivering real-world benefits for patients.

You’ll lead on creating and delivering dynamic, innovative communications that amplify scientific discovery and connect meaningfully with researchers, funders, partners, patients, patient organisations, and the wider public. From designing compelling campaigns to managing in-person and online engagement, your work will grow our brand and elevate our profile and inspire action across the UK and beyond.

We’re seeking a motivated communicator who thrives in complex, collaborative environments. You’ll be equally at home translating science for public audiences as you are working alongside academics and patient groups. With a proven track record in strategic communications, digital media, and stakeholder engagement, you’ll bring creativity, precision, and people skills to everything you do.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the development and delivery of bold, effective communications strategies.
  • Deliver and manage creative content and evaluate, report and demonstrate impact.
  • Build trusted relationships with national and local stakeholders.
  • Amplify the Centre’s voice through digital platforms, media campaigns, and compelling storytelling with excellent applied writing.
  • Translate science into impactful content that drives engagement and supports patient-centered research.
  • Collaborate across a network of partners in the UK to support high-impact initiatives and national campaigns.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); We are open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

This is a fixed-term position and available from 31st August 2025 to 31st August 2027 with possibility of extension to August 2029.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A degree or master’s qualification in a relevant field (e.g. communications, science, public engagement or related discipline).
  • Proven track record in science communication, with hands-on experience engaging diverse audiences – including patients, the public, researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong practical knowledge of social and digital media platforms, with experience crafting, curating, and managing complex scientific content across a range of digital and traditional channels.
  • Outstanding verbal communication skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and foster collaboration – while also being confident working independently, managing deadlines, and driving projects forward with initiative.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively across teams and organisations to co-develop and deliver communications, with a talent for building and sustaining strong stakeholder relationships.
