The main purpose of the role is to support the academic and professional development of students on BA (Hons) Graphic Design, and other programmes as required. We are seeking candidates with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Print production and traditional techniques (silk screen printing, letterpress, risograph, bindery)
  • Typography and layout design for both print and digital applications
  • Industry experience in graphic design, print production, or creative agencies
  • Experience in traditional design methodologies and print production workflows

The post is ideally suited for those with experience in the creative industries and print production who wish to enter Higher Education teaching.

About our course

Our BA Graphic Design course is a popular, student-centred programme with a focus on innovative and inclusive visual communication. We equip students with a broad and adaptable skill set, grounded in both creative practice and critical understanding. Students work with industry-standard facilities including our print studio and digital design labs, utilising both traditional techniques and emerging technologies—including AI-assisted design tools, advanced digital workflows, and comprehensive software suites. They are encouraged to explore diverse specialisations such as digital design, typography, editorial design, and branding, while engaging with various formats from print to digital campaigns. This diversity allows them to develop as versatile designers capable of working across platforms and industries.

Our course seeks to enable students to meet the challenges of employment (including self-employment and freelance practice) by providing an academically rigorous yet practically oriented curriculum. We achieve this by developing students' creative, analytical, research, design, managerial, and communication skills, alongside professional workflows, client relationship management, and business acumen. Students progress through a structured three-year journey: from foundational design theory and technical skills in Year 1, through client projects and critical analysis in Year 2, to professional preparation and specialised practice in Year 3.

Our student community is diverse, with many being first-generation university students, and some entering higher education without prior experience in design software or professional creative practice. We pride ourselves on delivering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can grow in confidence and skill through our vibrant studio culture and peer-to-peer learning approach. This role would suit someone who is already building a career in design education, or a professional from the design industry looking to bring their knowledge and experience into an academic setting. We welcome applicants who are passionate about student success and committed to inclusive, forward-thinking teaching practice.
