Atmospheric Physics, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PU
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Atmospheric Dynamics position.
This role is part of the recently funded NERC ‘Arctic Butterflies’ project to investigate the role of vortices and turbulent atmospheric dynamics in Arctic weather and climate, in collaboration with researchers at the University of Reading and project partners. The post-holder will be a member of the Atmospheric Dynamics group in AOPP which looks at the role of dynamical processes globally in weather and climate variability, predictability and change.
The role will involve detailed analysis and dynamical interpretation of atmospheric circulation in high-resolution reanalysis data, idealised model simulations and a state-of-the-art weather forecasting system. The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach. This may include lecturing, small group teaching, and tutoring of undergraduates and graduate students.
Applicants should hold a PhD/DPhil, (or close to completion) in atmospheric physics or related fields. Proficiency in the use of statistical programming languages and analysis of large datasets and strong publication records would be essential. Previous experience in atmospheric dynamics and predictability is desirable.
The post is full time and fixed term for 2 years with possibility of extension.
The closing date for applications is noon UK time on Monday, 8 September 2025.
You will be required to upload a CV and Supporting Statement as part of your online application. The Supporting Statement should include a cover letter and should also clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description.
