This is a part time (10% FTE), fixed term position until 31st January 2027.

We are looking for medical students with clinical knowledge and an interest in academic research and data sciences to join the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences. As part of the role, you will also be offered the opportunity to contribute to and co-author scientific publications where applicable. 

As a Clinical Phenotyping Assistant, you will generate clinical descriptions based on existing medical handbooks and/or online resources, whilst maintaining quality control of this process. You will contribute to the identification of clinical (e.g. SNOMED, ICD10) codes likely used for the recording of medical diagnoses, and pharmaceutical (e.g. BNF, RXNorm, ATC) codes used for the prescription or dispensation of medicines, medical devices and vaccines. You will also keep a log of all activity completed for the generation of code lists, which will occasionally contribute to small sections (methodology, appendices) of publications that they will be offered to co-author where applicable.

To be considered for you role you must be currently undergoing a degree in medicine and/or surgery. You will have the ability to write clinical descriptions based on existing medical knowledge and a possess a strong attention to detail. You will have an interest in in academic clinical or data science research and will demonstrate an ability to write up activity logs and results. You will have demonstratable IT skills including a knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and an ability to organise your own work load and take initiative as appropriate.

Knowledge of phenotyping in federated studies and R, python, or another programming language is desirable.

This role does not meet the criteria for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa under the UK Visa & Immigration points-based system. We are therefore unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
