Project title: Investigating translational therapies in hepatocellular carcinoma
Salary Range: from £23,000 to £31,500 (Depending on qualifications and experience)
About us
The CRUK Scotland Institute is a cancer research institute, situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe's leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Its research ethos is about excellence, honesty, openness, accountability, and integrity.
Project outline
We currently have a position available in the In Liver Cancer and Regeneration Laboratory. This group has developed state of the art models for primary liver cancer and is actively working in both mechanistic and translational science to move novel therapies into the clinic. You will primarily be responsible for research projects aimed at understanding tumour evolution and therapy responses both in early and late stage disease of Hepatocellular Carcinoma using both in vitro and in vivo approaches. You will work closely with Dr Stephanie May (Associate Scientist) in the group supporting experimentation and data analysis together with other lab responsibilities. The successful candidate will have, as a minimum, a relevant degree. Experience of in-vitro techniques including culture of patient-derived cell lines or organoids, viability assays and molecular biology approaches would be favourable as would experience with in-vivo mouse experimentation and ideally holding a home office personal license; however all necessary training will be provided. Good organisation, record keeping, people skills and the ability to multitask and act as a team player will be very important.
For informal enquiries please email Prof Tom Bird (t.bird@crukscotlandinstitute.ac.uk) or Dr Stephanie May (s.may@crukscotlandinstitute.ac.uk)
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
