The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality teaching in Law at both the International Foundation Year (Level 3 equivalent) and Graduate Diploma (Pre-Masters) levels. Teaching will be primarily face-to-face, with some online delivery as needed. The Law modules offered include The English Legal System, Contract Law, Tort Law, and Extended Project at the Foundation level, and Legal Institutions, Skills and Methods, Contemporary Issues in Law, Fundamentals of Contract Law, and Extended Research at the Graduate Diploma level. You will be part of a team of Law tutors and will contribute to the delivery of selected modules from this curriculum.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
  • Delivering modules (face-to-face and occasionally online) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the continued development of modules.
  • Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
  • Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students
  • Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
  • Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
  • Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
  • Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to subject.

ABOUT YOU

  • You will have experience of, or a commitment to, working with international students and have:
    • A recognised teacher status qualification (desirable) and/or
    • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
    • Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
  • Experience of working with international students both online and face to face (desirable)
  • Teaching experience delivering Law/Social Science programmes within a UK FE/Sixth form or higher education setting (essential)
  • Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc)
  • Confident practitioner online and face to face
  • Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
  • A student-centred approach
  • Strong record-keeping skills
