Job Summary

We are looking for a talented Project Conservator and Analyst with a proven ability and track-record to join the Chariots and Cynefin Project (2025-30) team and to undertake the analysis and treatment of the Pembrokeshire chariot fittings and grave-goods, a unique archaeological discovery of Late Iron Age date (50-100 CE). The holder will work with the research team to address project research questions and goals and will contribute to project presentations and publications. We need a confident communicator of archaeological conservation, engaging and inspiring participant communities as part of a complementing programme of enabled creative projects.

This post is created by a research project partnership led by the University of Manchester and Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales and grant funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council. The project is a strategic heritage and community partnership involving Cadw, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Heneb – Dyfed Archaeology, PLANED and SpanArts and the inputs of a range of contracted researchers and a chariot maker. An employee of Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, the post-holder will be based at the Archaeological Conservation Laboratory at the National Museum Cardiff.

Advertised at the Senior Conservator & Analyst grade, applicants will require post-graduate academic attainment in archaeological conservation and analytical research AND/OR equivalent work experience of 5-6 years in archaeological conservation in museums, heritage or similar. In addition, relevant archaeological knowledge, or previous experience of partnership working, or collaborative working with communities and creative practitioners, or the ability to speak in Welsh would each be desirable factors.

This is a three year fixed-term post.
