Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for an 18 month postdoctoral research associate position in the Barker lab (with possible extension subject to funding). The group works at the interface of clinical and laboratory science, aiming to better understand and develop novel treatments for neurological disorders. In particular, the successful candidate will contribute to an expanding programme of research around stem cell derived neurons in investigating the role of the immune system in Parkinson's disease (PD). The candidate will also lead on projects around gene therapies in Parkinson's disease and be expected to contribute to student lab supervision.
We seek applicants with a PhD (or close to submission) in neuroscience, and relevant experience and specialist knowledge in the fields of, neurodegeneration, cell culture, working with human cells, whilst virus work and animal experience is desirable. The post holder will work within a close clinical and scientific team of research assistants, doctoral students, post-doctoral researchers and clinicians. They will be expected to work in a team environment and to support and contribute to other related collaborative projects.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38 £34,132) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of your PhD award.
