Digital Service Designer

Canterbury Christ Church University – IT

Design the future of digital experiences across our university

We’re recruiting a creative and user-focused Digital Service Designer to lead the design of intuitive, effective, and engaging digital services at Canterbury Christ Church University.

This role is central to how we shape services that meet real user needs and support our organisational goals - ensuring every digital interaction is designed with clarity, consistency, and care.

As a member of the Digital Design team, you’ll lead user-centred service design activities across discovery, design and improvement phases. You’ll work in close partnership with technical teams, product owners, business leads, and fellow designers to deliver services that are accessible, inclusive, and aligned to our digital strategy.

You’ll also help shape the university’s design standards, embed service design best practice, and support the growth of our design capability through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Lead discovery through business analysis, user research, and data insight to identify needs and opportunities
  • Apply UX, CX, and service design principles to craft services that are easy to use and deliver real value
  • Develop and maintain service design standards to drive consistency and efficiency
  • Produce service blueprints and designs aligned with frameworks like ITIL
  • Collaborate across digital, technical and business teams to ensure design feasibility and strategic fit
  • Champion continuous improvement through user feedback, analytics and performance data
  • Guide and mentor junior designers, helping build a strong, supportive design community

This is an exciting opportunity to influence how services are shaped and delivered across a modern university - combining creativity, empathy, and strategy to make a real difference to students, staff and stakeholders.

Flexible & Connected Working

We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible. Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year, but must purposefully align to the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders. It is expected that there will be a relatively even balance between time spent on and off campus, but in most cases the work location will be determined by the service required or the tasks/activities being undertaken.
