Are you an experienced data professional with a passion for compliance and quality? Do you have a deep understanding of HESA returns and UK GDPR, and want to make a meaningful impact in higher education?

We’re looking for a HESA Data and Compliance Lead to join our Student Data and Governance team at The University of Law. This is a pivotal role where you'll ensure our statutory data returns are accurate, timely, and compliant helping shape the integrity of student data across the University.

About the Role

You’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality HESA and other statutory returns, liaising with internal and external stakeholders including HESA and Jisc. You'll support strategic data quality improvements, lead on governance documentation, and contribute to the long-term compliance and efficiency of our data systems including the Banner Student Record System.

This is a remote role (UK based), but you’ll stay well-connected through our strong virtual culture with occasional travel to our campuses when required.

As our HESA Data and Compliance Leadyou will be:

  • Lead on HESA and statutory data returns, ensuring secure and compliant data handling.
  • Drive data quality strategy using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and SQL.
  • Advise on UK GDPR compliance and implement incident management processes.
  • Collaborate with Planning, IT, and Registry teams to improve data structures and reporting.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and best practice training across data teams.

Is this you?:

  • Experience managing HESA or similar statutory returns in UK higher education.
  • Strong understanding of UK GDPR and data protection principles.
  • Proven skills in data analysis, governance, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in reporting tools and databases (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SQL).
  • Confident communicator with excellent organisational and stakeholder engagement skills.
