The role
We are seeking to appoint a Disability Services Manager with a strong commitment to providing high quality information, advice and guidance to disabled students, and to inclusive practice in higher education.
Disability Services provide information, advice and guidance for disabled students and the staff who teach them, and ensure that students have access to the support they need to be successful in their studies. This includes advising on reasonable adjustments, assistive technology and Disabled Students Allowance, and providing pre-entry advice and transition support.
What will you be doing?
The Disability Services Manager is responsible for operational leadership of Disability Services; ensuring a high standard of provision for students, offer holders and colleagues focused on the educational experience and success of disabled students.
You will support team leaders and advisers in managing complex or high-risk student cases, and will provide advice and support to staff in the service to ensure they deliver their work effectively and continue to develop their knowledge and skills.
You will provide specialist disability-related advice to the University advising on the impact and implementation of policy, regulations, legislation and codes of practice, and the implications of non-compliance.
You will build positive working relationships with academic and professional services colleagues across the University, and externally with providers and professional networks.
You should apply if
You are passionate about leading a service that is focused on making a difference to disabled students, and ensuring they can succeed in their studies.
You are a strong relationship builder with substantial experience and knowledge of the issues affecting disabled students in higher education. You have experience of managing complex cases, including the management of risk. A proven ability to take an evidence-led approach to service design and delivery would also be an advantage.
