The post of Research Fellow in AI for Healthcare is available with Dr Yukun Zhou in the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, ranked the best place in the world to study ophthalmology (CWUR Rankings by Subject 2017), as part of Dr Zhou’s Wellcome Trust Early-Career Award.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the development of novel innovations aimed at advancing fundamental methodologies for multi-modal foundation models and improving public healthcare. The successful applicant will also benefit from from the opportunities afforded by being part of the larger financial and administrative community of the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences and University College London (UCL).
About the role
Salary: UCL Grade 7 spine point 31-32 (£45,103 - £46,261)
Duration: the post is available from 01/09/2025 for 18 months until 28/02/2027
The research fellow will focus on evaluating the most recent multi-modal foundation models and integrating them into the workflow of agentic AI. The target is to propose an efficient, robust, and generalisable framework supporting diverse healthcare applications
Appointment as a Research Fellow at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD. If this is not the case, an initial appointment will be made as a Research Assistant at Grade 6b with payment at Grade 7 backdated upon award of a PhD to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (with corrections)
About you
Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant topic, and have a track record in the theory, development and application of machine learning.
