A fantastic vacancy has become available for a Chief Scientist to join us on a full-time basis which can be flexible by arrangement, as we recognise candidates of the calibre we seek may have other professional commitments that it would be advantageous to the role to maintain.

We don’t expect the impossible; you can’t be an expert in all aspects of science and research which will be important to us and our members. But you will use our networks, committees, expert groups, and members to source expertise while bringing your leadership and input into our priorities and work areas.

You will work across our professional leadership teams, driving excellence by supporting them to continually improve how we support our members and the profession by bringing in your commitment, focus and enthusiasm for science. You will work on projects to develop and improve products and services benefiting pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. You’ll have the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and so much more.

Chief Scientist Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a broad appreciation of pharmaceutical science and its application across the profession, combined with a positive national reputation for research which would link to our vision and/or mission together with:

  • An understanding of science and health policy and how these interact is also required.
  • You will hold a degree in pharmacy or a subject related to the pharmaceutical sciences and a relevant post graduate qualification.
  • You must have experience of working within an organisation at a senior level and demonstrable success outside of traditional organisational boundaries. You will be a member of RPS
  • You must have a commitment to improving our profession and the care of the people they serve by helping us stamp out discrimination.
  • You must be able to take a strategic approach to being more than one step ahead of these changes so RPS, and the Royal College of Pharmacy that we are seeking to become, is best placed to support our members as they take on these new challenges.

How we are currently working

RPS supports and works in a hybrid way, which means you will be able to work from home, however, there will be an expectation for collaborative face-to-face working – on average and typically this may be something between 4-8 working days per month at our London Office.

Closing date: 18 August 2025

Interviews will take place on 27 August and 5 September 2025
