SRUC (Scotland’s Rural College) is a specialist higher education institution delivering tertiary education, research and consultancy. SRUC’s principal purpose is to advance education, science, research, and environmental protection and improvement in rural and land-based industries, both domestically and internationally.
The SRUC Academic Enhancement Team, part of the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT), is dedicated to improving the quality of learning and teaching across SRUC. They focus on enhancing the student experience by supporting inclusive and high-quality teaching and student engagement initiatives. This includes coordinating and delivering staff development and recognition on learning, teaching and student engagement, and supporting academic teams in programme design and redevelopment activities.
The team also lead SRUC’s involvement in the Scottish Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP), aligning their work with national enhancement themes, coordinate peer support initiatives, and lead on enhancing student voice at SRUC. They participate in internal and external networks to help implement enhancement strategies and collaborate with other departments to embed a high-quality student experience across all levels, modes and types of learning.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Head of Learning and Teaching, the Academic Enhancement Lead will play a pivotal role in advancing SRUC’s ambition to be the leading national provider of further and higher education programmes as a modern tertiary enterprise university focused on the natural economy. Working collaboratively within the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT) and with the wider academic division, the postholder will contribute to a strategic approach to the continual enhancement of learning and teaching, with a strong emphasis on supporting academic staff in developing their academic and scholarly practice.
They will lead staff development activities that nurture, incubate, and facilitate innovative pedagogic practices at all levels, ensuring alignment with and implementation of SRUC’s Learning and Teaching Enhancement Strategy.
The role also involves leading programme development and learning design activities to support the creation and continual improvement of high-quality programmes that deliver an excellent student learning experience, ultimately improving student satisfaction and success.
In addition, the postholder will lead, implement, and embed academic enhancement projects while building and maintaining internal and external networks that support the ongoing enhancement and high standards of learning and teaching at SRUC. They will also provide strategic leadership for the Academic Enhancement Team, ensuring effective delivery across all enhancement priorities and representing Academic Enhancement in institutional quality processes and academic enhancement networks.

Minimum Qualifications:
An SCQF Level 11 qualification or equivalent (e.g., a Masters Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, or Postgraduate Certificate). A further or higher education teaching qualification and Senior Fellowship (SFHEA), or a demonstrable commitment to achieving such status within a year of appointment.
