The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong

The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) is a non-profit private liberal-arts-oriented university with six Schools (Business, Communication, Decision Sciences, Humanities and Social Science, Translation and Foreign Languages, and Transdisciplinary Studies), and over 6,700 full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students. HSUHK was recognised in the 2025 Top Universities and Top Scientists Rankings conducted by international academic platform, Research.com, and was ranked 22nd in Social Sciences and Humanities, and 33rd in Economics and Finance among the top universities in China. The University’s MSc in Global Supply Chain Management programme was ranked 84th globally in the QS International Trade Rankings 2025 announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The programme was also ranked 7th in the Greater China region and 4th in Hong Kong. The School of Business obtained AACSB International accreditation, a distinction achieved by only 6% of the world’s leading business schools.

The Position

As HSUHK’s chief academic and executive officer, the President drives the University’s strategic growth and mission, guiding its academic excellence, innovation, and societal impact. Leading the Provost and Vice-Presidents, the President champions HSUHK’s position as a leading liberal-arts institution in the Region.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Shape and execute the University's long-term vision and development plans.
  • Academic Excellence: Promote high standards in teaching, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Institutional Advancement: Strengthen HSUHK’s reputation regionally and globally through innovation and impact.
  • Financial Stewardship: Oversee resource allocation, infrastructure development, and financial sustainability.
  • Global Engagement: Expand international partnerships and foster a multicultural campus environment.
  • Fundraising & Outreach: Cultivate donor relations, alumni engagement, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Inclusive Governance: Lead with transparency, shared decision-making, and effective communication across the University community. 

The Person

The ideal candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • Respected Scholar and Educator: A terminal degree (PhD or equivalent); distinguished record in scholarship, teaching, and research in higher education; strong commitment to liberal arts and its integration with professional disciplines; demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and advancement of research excellence.
  • Visionary and Strategic Leader: a forward-looking vision for HSUHK’s local, regional, and global role aligned with higher education trends; commitment to advancing core institutional values within a self-financed framework; proficiency in resource allocation, financial stewardship, and infrastructure development for institutional growth.
  • Multi-cultural and Global Thinker: Experienced in leading diverse academic communities and cultivating inclusive campus culture; well-connected through international networks with demonstrated capacity to expand global partnerships and student mobility initiatives.
  • Fundraising and Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in fundraising, donor relations, and alumni engagement to advance scholarships, research, and campus development; adept at representing HSUHK to government, industry, and community stakeholders; experienced in branding and marketing initiatives to enhance institutional visibility and reputation.
  • Effective Communicator and Collaborator: Collaborative leader who inspires engagement among faculty, staff, students, and external partners; effective communicator of HSUHK’s mission across diverse audiences including media and public forums; committed to shared governance and transparent decision-making.
