This role is based on the University of Leeds campus with in person attendance needed.
Are you a proactive and organised administrator with a commitment to equality and inclusion? Do you have the interpersonal sensitivity and professionalism to support a blind academic in carrying out a wide range of teaching, research and administrative responsibilities?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable individual to provide tailored support to a blind lecturer in Psychotherapy and Counselling. This role will involve enabling access to visual and digital materials, assisting with university systems and events, and providing logistical and environmental support. You will also support basic guide dog care during the working day, including access to water and toileting needs. You will be joining a university that is committed to accessibility and equity in the workplace and will play a vital part in ensuring this lecturer can carry out their academic role fully and independently.
The academic works in areas related to trauma, disability, psychotherapy and social justice. As such, the successful candidate must be comfortable working with sensitive or distressing information and maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality. The role requires excellent judgement, flexibility, and the ability to manage evolving boundaries in a dynamic working relationship. You will need to demonstrate strong initiative, discretion, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will be confident working both independently and as part of a wider academic and operational team, with sensitivity to the empowering role a PA plays in enabling the disabled person to take full control of their own professional role. You will also be an experienced user of Microsoft Office applications and be able to manage email and internet-based systems.
You will be able to demonstrate a high degree of independent working and initiative in all areas of the role as well as working with multiple teams to achieve end goals. In addition, you will demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail in your work, be able to manage competing deadlines, and work with confidential and sensitive information professionally and with due diligence. You will also be an experienced user of Microsoft Office applications and be able to manage email and internet-based systems. This role is line managed through the Academic & Business Services team structure in the School of Healthcare.
