Job Description

The Centre for International Law (CIL) at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Associate position. This is a one-year contractual role associated with the expansion of CIL’s programme focused on international economic law and policy. The objective of this position is to develop the research capabilities and knowledge of junior scholars by immersing them in a dynamic and supportive research environment, thereby enhancing their understanding of various aspects of international economic law and policy.

The responsibilities of the selected candidate will include:

  • Assisting the Head of the International Economic Law and Policy programme with research pertaining to the programme’s ongoing projects in international economic law. This includes CIL’s position as an official observer in UNCITRAL Working Group III, its projects on international economic law, climate change, sustainable development, and its contributions to the development of the international architecture for economic regulation;
  • Supporting the planning and organization of various seminars and workshops hosted by CIL, including the Singapore International Arbitration Academy;
  • Conducting research and producing at least one publication for potential submission to a recognized journal upon the conclusion of the position;

CIL provides all researchers access to a variety of professional development opportunities including workshops, seminars, and additional training programmes both within NUS and at international venues, enabling continuous growth and knowledge enhancement.

Qualifications

  • An LLM, JD or other relevant degree or equivalent experience;
  • A solid foundation in international economic law and/or policy, e.g., trade, investment and other areas of international economic regulation broadly understood;
  • Excellent analytical, research and writing abilities;
  • A high degree of self-motivation and strong organisational and computer competencies;
  • Ideally at least two (2) years of professional or work experience.
