Research Assistant

The UCL Division of Psychology and Languages Sciences is ranked second in the world for psychology (Shanghai Global Ranking, 2022) and is top-ranked in the UK for research power in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience according to the UK’s Research Excellence Framework 2021. The Child Trauma and Recovery research group in the Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology Department, seeks to understand how to better understand, identify, and address the mental health needs of young people exposed to complex trauma. We are particularly focused on young people with experience of the care system.

About the role

This fulltime research assistant role is to support the final phase of the UKRI-funded ReThink research project. This has been a 4-year project between UCL, University of Sussex, and Cardiff University, which has explored the mental health and wellbeing of care-experienced young people. The role would specifically support the data management and dissemination on the primary data longitudinal mixed-methods work package on this project, which has collected quantitative data from over 400 care-experienced young people, from baseline and a 1-year follow-up; along with an embedded longitudinal qualitative study. Data collection has now been completed on the project. The RA would join a vibrant and collegial team to support the final phase of the project (which finishes end March 2026). Key tass will include supporting data management and analysis, non-academic and academic dissemination activities, and leading data archiving.

• An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role.
• This is a fixed-term role until 31 March 2026.
• This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 3-days/week (60% FTE) on site, as required by UCL.
• This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

About you

Candidates will have a strong academic background in psychology or a related discipline. They should have relevant experience in the management of qualitative and quantitative data. They will have excellent interpersonal skills for working within a busy multi-disciplinary research team and with children and young people, and services. They will be highly organised, detail focused, and proactive, with the ability to manage the competing demands of a large project.
