About the role
Do you have excellent data science skills and want to contribute to a prestigious UK air pollution modelling contract? Your role will be to process data from hemispheric to local scales as well as to develop new modelling methods using AI and Machine Learning, to improve model performance and to contribute to UK policy development.
We actively encourage applications from women and other underrepresented groups. Our team is currently male-dominated, and we are committed to building a more diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive.
What you would be doing
Working closely with colleagues in the Environmental Research Group, you’ll help process the data required for the Weather Researching and Forecasting (WRF) meteorological and Community Multi Scale Air Quality (CMAQ) chemical transport models and help analyse outputs. This will entail working with large and varied datasets, including use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), code development and the application of AI methods. You’ll produce work of the highest standards and actively encourage high standards in others. You’ll also contribute to ERG’s wider role in Imperial, including to teaching.
What we are looking for
The post holder should have a PhD in a relevant subject, have relevant data science experience, be familiar with machine learning and AI techniques, have excellent written and verbal skills, manage their own workload and contribute to attracting funds for the group. You should be very familiar with working in a Linux environment and have experience of processing data in typical gridded file types eg. netCDF, GRIB2, HDF5 as well as working with remote sensing and satellite products.
What we can offer you
