About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Fashion & Textiles Lecturer who is passionate about raising the profile and reputation of the subject, and Falmouth University locally, nationally, and globally, positioning the organisation as a future-facing, ambitious hub of creativity and innovation. 

You will work with university leadership, academics, and senior colleagues to create compelling content, aligned with our 2030 strategy supporting the team maintaining a vibrant curriculum embedded at the core of the Integrated Foundation Year (IFY). The role will include subject specific module leadership and delivery across all stages of the IFY to encourage, support and to help our foundation students to build creative confidence, study skills and autonomy. It will also involve responsibilities related to personal tutoring and taking an interest in the experience and well-being of a set group of students. 

All lecturers are expected to engage in research and innovation, defining an individual research and innovation plan which is anticipated to align with one or more of our research programmes.

About You

You will hold a Master’s degree in the fashion and textiles field with a strong track record of teaching and practice-led research in an area appropriate to fashion and textiles. You must be able to demonstrate up-to-date working knowledge of current practices and research within the field of fashion and textiles, and you will have a passion for, and experience of, developing innovative and inclusive teaching pedagogy. 

We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience: 

  • Advanced knowledge of creative and professional practice in the fashion and textiles field; ideally from a design and communications perspective e.g. Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Photography, Fashion Styling, Art Direction, Costume Design
  • A high level of enthusiasm and competence in the subject area skills of research and development to include drawing, sketchbook creation, ideation and 2D>3D processes 
  • Implementation of fashion and textiles and trans-disciplinary learning and teaching strategies at undergraduate level, with an understanding or practice-based knowledge of development of pedagogic principles from School to FE / HE. Further education level teaching experience is welcomed. 
  • Evidence of research informed delivery 
  • Collaboration with industry partners, associated research networks and learned societies 
  • Clear and concise communication skills with the ability to adapt your communication style to suit the audience
  • Adopts inclusive teamwork and problem solving

Due to the nature of the role, you will also be required to undergo a Disclosure & Barring Service Check.
