The Role
The Estates & Facilities Service are looking for an experienced and reliable Plumbing and Heating Engineer to join their dynamic team carrying out day-to-day maintenance across the University and associated sites. Based within the Estates & Facilites Service you will undertake a variety of mechanical maintenance and installation tasks, as well as supporting other Estates & Facilities teams and trades as required.
You should be qualified to City and Guilds Advanced standard, NVQ level 3 or equivalent and have served a recognised apprenticeship or undergone modern training to an equivalent standard. Working as part of the Maintenance Team, you will be carrying out efficient, effective repairs and planned preventative maintenance on all types of mechanical plant including heating systems, pipework and pumps, ventilation systems, hot and cold water services and above ground drainage.
The role will require regular manual handling, working at heights and occasionally working within walk-in ducts. A full driving licence is required because the post holder would be on-call and required to attend any Newcastle University site at any time during the on-call period. We have a number of sites away from the main campus that are not accessible by public transport (Cocklepark farm and Nafferton farm). The post holder would also be required to get between sites with tools, equipment, parts etc and this is not possible without being able to drive.
The successful applicant will be required to participate in our 24 hour emergency on call rota and may occassionally be required to work evenings or weekends.

The estate is seen as a strategic enabler in support of the University Vision and Strategy. The role is to provide a high quality and customer focused maintenance and installation service to the University. The role will be carried out in support of academic, commercial, residential and other University activities.
