Do you have a passion for criminology and teaching? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to teach in 2026.
The School of Social Sciences is looking to recruit a part-time, Associate Lecturer to deliver lectures, seminars, and associated assessment supervision this coming Spring term.
As Associate Lecturer you will teach on two undergraduate Criminology modules:
You will have a broad knowledge of teaching critical approaches to imprisonment and justice to undergraduates on a Criminology and Criminal Justice degree. This will include a particular emphasis on understanding imprisonment and penal systems, theories of punishment, inequality and discrimination within carceral settings, and alternatives to imprisonment. You will have a broad knowledge of teaching critical approaches to the criminal justice process to undergraduates on a Criminology and Criminal Justice degree. This will include a particular emphasis on understanding the criminal justice process and related institutions, such as police, courts, prisons and probation; theories of justice and punishment; and structural inequality and oppression within criminal justice institutions. Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5 which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
