An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Research Assistants (RAs) within the Institute of Mental Health. The RAs will be working on the ESRC/NIHR funded DETERMIND programme (www.determind.org.uk). DETERMIND is the largest cohort of newly diagnosed people with dementia and their carers currently running within the UK.
Following the success of the first wave, the programme has received further funding to recruit two supplementary ‘Seldom Heard Voices’ cohorts. Working alongside teams in Sussex, London and Gateshead, the RAs will be responsible for supporting the recruitment of 300 newly diagnosed people with dementia from Black, South Asian, Caribbean and other minority groups as well as 150 people with dementia who identify as LGBTQ+. In addition to this, the RAs will undertake face-to-face interviews with participants to deliver measures concerning people’s experiences of the diagnostic process, their access to services and their general well-being and life quality.
The positions are ideal for people considering a PhD or Clinical Doctorate, and many of our previous RAs have gone on to undertake these roles.
The post holders will be based at Nottingham University and hold Honorary contracts with Nottinghamshire NHS Foundation Trust. They will work as part of an established and diverse wider research team based at other recruitment sites in Sussex, London and Gateshead.
You must have knowledge and experience of working with people with dementia or other potentially vulnerable populations and the challenges that this may entail. You will have an understanding of research and delivering questionnaires to participants. You will have a desire and the personal capabilities to work with people with dementia to support their well-being and quality of life.
The University of Nottingham provides generous employment packages whilst supporting the well-being of our staff to help them reach their full potential. As a university employee, you will have an excellent choice of benefits and rewards, including:

Your working hours will be Full-Time (36.25 hours per week) and we require the RAs to be flexible depending on participant visits. We may also consider job share arrangements. This job is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31/07/2026.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
