The full-time starting salary is normally £38,050.00 per annum, with progression available in post to £44,131.00 per annum. This role also offers an additional 10% market supplement and a 5% shift allowance.

We have an opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated Application Analyst within the Business Applications team. You will provide proactive support for a wide range of software that prop up several key staff, student and public facing services. You will be joining a friendly, passionate team with ambition and drive to improve and modernise Information Technology operations. You will work closely with colleagues from across our University and your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with your team to solve complex operational problems covering a broad range of software services supported by several modern technology platforms.
  • Contributing towards delivering ITIL aligned services.
  • A focus on opportunities to automate and streamline activities that support service operation.
  • Working with your colleagues towards achieving the University’s strategic goals.
  • Ensure effective monitoring and measurement, aligned with KPIs, to enable proactive maintenance of supported services.
  • Work closely with project and other IT teams as well as stakeholders and customers to successfully support services throughout their lifecycle.
  • Ensure key documentation is maintained for live services.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for several university software services.

Day-to-day, you will be focussed on ensuring that our access control system, student records systems, Virtual Learning Environment (including lecture capture), Enterprise Resource Planning, cloud IAM and low-code development platform and several other services are fully supported and well managed. We use a wide range of technologies to deliver these services. These include OpenID/SAML, EntraID, PowerPlatform, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, IIS, Windows Server, PowerShell and public cloud services such as Azure, AWS and Oracle Cloud. You will be integral to new service on-boarding, engaging with resource planning to ensure timely work package delivery and Continual Service Improvement. You will report to and work closely with the Senior Application Analyst.

Candidates from a variety of Application Support or development backgrounds will be welcomed. Foundation in ITIL based service delivery is essential. Educated to degree level or above. The ideal candidate will also hold excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, be self-motivated, and be able to demonstrate a proven track record of delivering software services.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University. Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly.
