Within IT Services, the Microsoft Platform Services team manages and develops the University’s Microsoft-based infrastructure, systems, and applications. About the Role

  • As Deputy Team Lead, you’ll provide leadership and line management to part of the Microsoft Platform Services team, supporting the Team Leader to deliver consistent direction across the group. You’ll play a key role in service delivery, acting as Service Delivery Manager for assigned services, leading on service design, improvement, continuity planning, and ensuring that our platforms remain secure and aligned with best practice.
  • You will also provide technical leadership, contributing to system strategy, roadmaps, and the adoption of new technologies. From overseeing system design and upgrades to troubleshooting complex issues, you’ll ensure our Microsoft infrastructure supports the evolving needs of the University.
  • This role offers a unique opportunity to engage with stakeholders across Oxford, from senior University committees to user groups, shaping the delivery of IT services that impact thousands of students and staff. You will also deputise for the Team Leader when required, gaining exposure to high-level decision-making and leadership.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience leading or managing technical teams, including staff development and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with IT service management processes and best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a range of audiences.
  • Strong organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
