The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a leading institute for biological research.
The Operations Group supports the whole Institute, and we are seeking an experienced Manager to run the Media Prep and Glasswash facility. As Manager you will be responsible for the management of a team of 10 staff who carry out the preparation and provision of a wide variety of media, buffers/reagents and clean, sterile glassware, in support of the LMB’s science. You will be responsible for the efficient running of the facility, maintaining appropriate levels of stock and ensuring quality control and appropriate standards are maintained as well as developing and implementing new methods, recipes etc. You will ensure compliance with legislation as well as local and corporate policies/guidance (Health & Safety and other).
Applicants should have a degree or equivalent professional qualification in a scientific subject, or equivalent experience. You should also have extensive previous laboratory experience including media preparation or equivalent, preferably including handling chemical and/or biological materials. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with users at all levels to understand their needs, with the ability to tackle problems as and when they arise applying solutions that take account of all relevant issues such as financial, quality and timing.
Proven experience of managing staff and resources, strong leadership and organisational skills, and proficiency in basic computer operations and common software applications, including extensive experience of Microsoft Office, are also required.
