This position is based in the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow and is to work on an NIHR-funded evaluation of Community Wealth Building (CWB). CWB is a local economic development approach which seeks to retain more wealth in local communities by changing policies around employment, procurement, asset use, economic ownership and finance.  It has been implemented in some areas across the UK, notably in Preston and North Ayrshire, with variation in the degree to which it has been pursued in other areas.

This project seeks to evaluate the impact of CWB on population health and health inequalities. The evaluation will be undertaken through a collaboration between Glasgow Caledonian, Glasgow and Lancaster Universities, and the Glasgow Centre for Population Health. The evaluation has five work packages which will contribute different insights into the operation and impact of CWB. This job focuses on the quantitative evaluation. It will involve leading the application for data linkage of Scottish health and census data and performing difference-in-difference analyses to compare more and less exposed populations.

The work will be supported by senior researchers in the team and provide the opportunity to lead publications in high-impact journals and to disseminate the findings to relevant policymakers.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Professor Gerard McCartney, gerard.mccartney@glasgow.ac.uk
