Abertay is a modern university with a global outlook, rooted in its local and national communities. We have made our mark with high quality, well-directed teaching and research, and a stimulating and enriching experience for our students.
The Department hosts the Biomedical, Forensic Science, Food Sciences and Engineering academic provision and sits within the Faculty of Social and Applied Sciences. Our department is highly research active, consisting of over 30 staff delivering a range of undergraduate (Hons) and postgraduate degree programmes. The majority of our courses are accredited by relevant professional bodies. We are proud of the impact and recognition that our research has garnered, the commendations we have received for our teaching, our sustained links with practitioners in all programmes, and excellent national ratings for student satisfaction. Students and staff have access to a variety of laboratories equipped with recognised equipment and software.
Reporting to the Head of Department, you will provide excellent teaching to our students, developing and delivering content as well as managing modules. Your expertise and a collegiate approach to working with others will contribute to the success and smooth running of our programmes, and continued excellence in our teaching provision.
Given our research-teaching linkages, and the content of our degree pathways, we are looking for an individual whose would be able to teach engineering content (e.g. e.g. civil engineering; structural engineering; finite element modelling) across all years of our undergraduate and postgraduate Construction, Engineering and Environment programmes.
We take pride in our approach to teaching which emphasises the importance of engaging students in active learning through a combination of lectures, tutorials, laboratory practicals and workshops, affording opportunities for skill enhancement. With an applied focus, our interest is in developing competent professionals who can engage in critical discussion and debate, and who have the potential to become the leaders of tomorrow in their chosen field.
The role requires an individual who can communicate civil and structural engineering to a diverse student body in a variety of standard and innovative formats and who is chartered or close to being chartered with one of the following institutions: The Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, the Institute of Highway Engineers and the Permanent Way Institution.
You will be a team player committed to the success and development of our department and our students, collaborating effectively across the team to share practice. You will have a motivation to engage with evidence-based teaching practices and research and will be effective at managing your schedule.
If you believe you have the skills and experience for this exciting and challenging role, please submit your application through our online recruitment system.
Please note that we will only accept applications through our online recruitment system.
