Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is a globally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research in tropical diseases. Ranked in the top 5.3% of universities in the world, 1st overall in the latest UK Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, and 2nd in the UK for research impact through REF2021, there has never been a better time to join the team in Liverpool.
Our Vector Biology Department is already one of the largest in the world, bringing together expertise in molecular biology, population genetics, field entomology, and translational research. With internationally recognised strengths in genomics, insecticide resistance, and evaluation of novel interventions, we provide a collaborative environment where new leaders can build ambitious programmes. We are now seeking to expand our research to investigate vector–pathogen interactions, to assess the impacts of anthropogenic change on vector-borne diseases, and to diversify the disease systems in which we work.
With access to state-of-the-art insectaries and CL3 containment facilities for pathogen research, and a new Human Challenge Facility providing an exceptional environment for experimental work, you will join a multidisciplinary group committed to translating mechanistic insight into real-world disease control.
The role also offers an exceptional opportunity to embed field-based and translational research in Malawi through the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome (MLW) Programme, as well as other LSTM hubs and research collaborations that together offer world-class clinical infrastructure, established entomology field sites, and advanced insectaries and molecular laboratories. This is central to growing LSTM’s footprint and ensuring our science is embedded in the communities most affected by vector-borne disease.
