The role
We are seeking a News and Content Manager (Student and Corporate). This role plays a key part in shaping and delivering the University’s communications, with a strong focus on digital-first content and media engagement. Working closely with colleagues across the institution, the News and Content Manager helps to tell the University’s story in a way that builds reputation, engages audiences, and supports strategic priorities.
The post holder will be part of a team of communications and digital specialists, guiding and advising more junior team members and leading on a collaborative approach to content creation, ensuring consistency across channels. With a strong understanding of the media landscape and data-driven communications, the role is central to enhancing the University's visibility, influence, and impact.
What will you be doing?
- Lead proactive communications and media planning, identifying compelling stories and setting narratives that promote the University’s brand, using strong project management and cost-effective delivery methods.
- Embed digital channels into all campaign strategies, ensuring social media and online platforms are central to both proactive and responsive communications.
- Use data-driven insights to inform campaign planning, target key audiences, measure impact, and continuously improve communications through evaluation and feedback.
- Create and manage high-quality content across channels, working with suppliers and partners on copywriting, editing, and timely responses to emerging stories and opportunities.
- Advise on media and reputation management, supporting colleagues with media engagement, ensuring brand consistency, and monitoring channels for potential risks.
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external media at local, national, and international levels to support strategic communications and enhance the University’s reputation.
You should apply if
- Extensive experience delivering successful media campaigns across traditional and digital platforms, including strong story-pitching skills and a solid understanding of media operations (local, national and international).
- Strong digital expertise, with experience developing digital presence, knowledge of emerging trends, and proficiency with tools like Adobe, Microsoft 365, and project management platforms (e.g. Asana).
- Proven ability to use data and insights to inform media strategy, measure impact, and drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and content creation skills, including writing, editing, filming, and tailoring messaging for different audiences, platforms, and purposes.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build relationships at all levels, both internally and externally.
- Highly organised and self-motivated, able to manage multiple complex projects, work under pressure, and take initiative with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to be part of the Media team’s out-of-hours on-call rota, so that the University can provide 24/7 media cover.
