The Seeley Library is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Deputy Librarian (Operations). This post is ideal for anyone who enjoys building library collections and engaging with a vibrant academic community. It provides an opportunity to work as part of a team to help students and deliver a supportive library service to a range of disciplines. This is a part-time role and based on-site for three and a half days a week (including Wednesday-Thursday).
The Seeley is a hub library that supports five disciplines within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Politics & International Studies, Sociology, Land Economy and Latin American Studies). We are a dedicated team of nine library professionals who work together to provide access to collections, training, and a welcoming library space. The Deputy Seeley Librarian (Operations) reports to the Seeley's Librarian and works alongside the Seeley team to ensure the library meets the needs of the communities we serve.
Our new Deputy Librarian (Operations) will engage directly with academic staff by attending relevant committees and responding to queries. You will also meet regularly with students in the library and help adapt our library service in order to meet their changing needs. Your knowledge of the student and academic communities we serve will help the library to build collections of in-print and online resources. You will use this knowledge to purchase content for the History Faculty and meet their teaching and research needs.
This post includes administrative tasks that support the acquisition of stock and the payment of casual staff. You will use every application within our library management system (Alma) at an advance level and will assist and train other staff to use it too. Further financial duties will require you to administer a credit card and organise the payment of invigilator staff. Training will be offered for all of these administrative duties and a number of shadowing opportunities will be available.
You will help supervise six members of staff and will manage a rota to ensure business continuity. You will meet regularly for one-to-ones with some members of the team and will help train and recruit new staff. This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys working alongside library staff and being a pivotal part of a busy hub library.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
We particularly welcome applications from women and /or candidates from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our department.

Closing date for applications is Sunday 14 September 2025 with interviews expected to take place w/c 22 September 2025. You are advised to state clearly in your application how your skills match the criteria listed in the Further Particulars.
