About the role:

The University of Lancashire and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have partnered to address the global doctor shortage through delivery of a new accredited medical qualification, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Building on a collaboration that began in 2017, the two institutions now offer a pathway starting with a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in International Medical Sciences (PGDip IMS) studied in the UK at the University; followed by a further two years study to complete the U.S. accredited MD degree with AUC while in clinical sites in the US or UK.

The purpose of the role of the Clinical Lead is to support academic managers in integrating Clinical Skills and Medical Knowledge within the PGDip IMS/AUC MD programme. The post holder will contribute to maintaining high quality and performance standards, and assist in policy and resource planning, and they will collaborate with Clinical Skills and Medical Sciences staff to align the programme and prepare students for assessments and progression. They will also aid AUC Clinical Deans in transitioning students from Medical to Clinical Sciences.

About you:

You will have will have a proven track record in academic leadership, including programme and curriculum development within a medical programme. You should possess experience in international medical education, liaising with external organisations, and building long-term relationships. Significant recent experience in a clinical healthcare setting is required, along with an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. A PhD or medical qualification is required, as is a formal teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. You must be familiar with USMLE STEP examination standards and capable of undertaking research and knowledge transfer. Strong initiative, teamwork, and people development skills are essential, with a focus on continuous professional development. Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Office and Blackboard (or equivalent), is necessary. You should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. The ability to identify new opportunities and innovate, as well as a commitment to the University’s Values, is also needed for this role.

 An ideal candidate would have experience in using simulation in medical education and hold a medical degree (MD, MBBS, MBChB). They may also have experience of working with professional bodies and/or relevant sector skills councils, along with familiarity with QAA and regulatory processes related to course quality management and delivery.
