The University of Macau (UM) is an internationalized research-oriented comprehensive public university in the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) located at the west bank of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The GBA is rapidly developing into one of the leading technology and innovation hubs of the world. The Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering (IAMPE) is committed to the balanced integration of fundamental research and technology applications, focusing on advanced materials for energy, environment, healthcare, and quantum information. The interdisciplinary nature of IAPME enables realization of the different research strengths of the university in the scientific engineering solutions as well as in the coping of future technological challenges. The selected candidate will also undertake teaching duties in the Department of Physics and Chemistry (DPC) of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The DPC is dedicated to fostering academic excellence through innovative and engaging teaching practices. They are committed to delivering high-quality education in physics, math, or chemistry, emphasizing hands-on laboratory experiences, interdisciplinary coursework, and research-driven instruction. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Physics or a related discipline, have an outstanding background in both education and research, and possess a significant publication record of original and distinctive research. Preference will be given to candidates whose research complements and synergizes with ongoing activities across IAPME and in the surrounding community. The position is expected to establish a strong research program conducting high-impact research to solve real world problems.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in Fall 2026.
Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,250,200 (approximately USD154,350) for the position of Full Professor, MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
