About the role
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit a Lecturer to undertake high-quality research and teaching. We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary research expertise either of the following areas:
These research areas are aligned with Faculty research centres, including IAAPS, a world-leading centre of excellence supporting the transport industry in the transition to net zero. Teaching will support our MEng undergraduate degree programmes as well as new MSc programmes under development. Our degree programmes have an outstanding reputation built on industry-linked teaching, rigorous academic standards, placement-provision, and graduate employability. As well as lecturing, you will be expected to participate in supervising students undertaking significant individual and group projects encompassing research or design activities.
We are one of the leading Mechanical Engineering Departments in the UK and provide a progressive academic environment. The University of Bath has recently been ranked 132nd in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
You will benefit from the supportive, collaborative and well-organised Department and Faculty system at the University. There is a strong culture of providing newly appointed staff the necessary support and freedom to develop their academic careers. We would like you to have the future ambition to take on leadership roles within and/or outside the Department at an appropriate stage in your career. These roles can lead to promotion and the University has a well-established career progression route for academic staff.
About you
You will hold a PhD (or equivalent) and developing research track record in one of the above areas. You will be expected to publish high-quality research papers, supervise postgraduate research students, and have the potential to apply for and attract significant external research funding. You will also engage with one or more of our Faculty-wide inter-disciplinary research centres covering energy (generation, transmission and storage, including future fuels), Net Zero, biomedical engineering, sustainability and climate change adaptation.
A kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity. You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging your team to adapt and evolve.
