About us

About King’s Foundations

King’s Foundations is responsible for the delivery of Academic Skills support across the university providing in person, online, and asynchronous programmes for students studying on all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at King’s.  In addition, we are a leading centre for pathway education across the HE sector and welcome over 2,500 students each year across a range of programmes.

King’s Foundations’ mission is to support a diverse group of learners to achieve their potential at King’s, supporting students to become independent and inquisitive learners. King’s Foundations is home to approximately 80 permanent staff, growing to around 150 during our busy summer months.  We champion a forward-thinking approach to education and take a digitally-enabled approach across all aspects of education. Over the last 6 years, the department has seen significant planned growth in support of King’s Vision 2029, with annual income of over £20m.

About King’s Centre for International Education and Languages

King’s Centre for International Education and Languages is designed to widen the educational reach of King’s. It brings together three existing areas: King’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, and King’s Language Centre. This brings together academic skills provision for all King’s students, international pathway provision, pre sessional programmes, pre-UG summer courses, UG summer modules, UG language modules, and bespoke language programmes for the community and our partners.

About the role

This is a newly created post within the Academic Skills team at KCL, intended to support international students in 4 faculties, as well as oversee Academic Skills provision for all students within at least 1 additional designated faculty. The role holder will join 3 existing Integrated Academic Skills Coordinators and a General Academic Skills Coordinator, as well as a team of tutors. They will work to build on the work already in place across the institution, with specific focus on international students.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying students’ needs, and designing, developing and delivering a framework of provision which works towards supporting students transitioning to UK HE and achieving their highest academic potential whilst studying at King’s.

The role holder will have a solid understanding of the needs of international students and a strong pedagogical background of delivering academic literacy, language, communication and academic skills provision in a UKHE. It is expected that the role holder will create new partnerships and work closely with key stakeholders in King’s Foundations and across the college. A key part of the role will be to liaise with academic staff, so the role-holder will need to be skilled at building excellent working relationships with academics at all levels, listening to multiple voices and guiding conversations to the most effective way of designing provision. The role holder will work both independently and lead a small team.

This is a full-time post (35 hours), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
