HFEA’s Scientific Committee seeks to recruit a pool of External Expert Biostatisticians
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) is the UK’s independent regulator overseeing safe and appropriate practice in fertility treatment and embryo research. We licence and monitor clinics carrying out IVF, donor insemination and human embryo research.
The HFEA has launched an open recruitment call for External Expert Biostatisticians to assist the HFEA's Scientific and Clinical Advances Advisory Committee (SCAAC) by undertaking reviews of the quality of published evidence around the efficacy of fertility treatment add-ons.
The Committee meets three times a year to consider advances in science and clinical practice which are relevant to the Authority’s work. One of the functions of the Committee is to rate fertility treatment add-ons, which are then published on the HFEA website.
In order to rate an add-on, it is necessary not only to identify the published evidence, but also to assess the quality of that evidence. For this reason, the HFEA is looking to appoint a pool (three to five) of External Expert Biostatisticians with expertise in systematic reviews and evidence assessment to carry out an independent assessment of the quality of evidence (using the GRADE methodology) for each treatment add-on.
External Expert Statisticians will be appointed for a term of five years. A fee of £325 per day will be paid for undertaking a treatment add-ons evidence review. The number of days needed to undertake the work will vary and will be agreed in advance.
All candidates must have the right to work in the United Kingdom and must not hold any other role or appointment with the HFEA.
Closing date: Tuesday 30 September 2025
