DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS

Apart from making a significant contribution to most of other academic programmes of the University, the Department also offers master programmes.  Starting from 2025/26 academic year, it will offer a new Bachelor Scheme in Applied Mathematics and Finance Analytics and Fast-track Integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree Programmes.  Please visit the website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/ama/ for more information. 

It has established a Joint Laboratory of Applied Mathematics with the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.  The appointee is expected to be involved in the activities of the Laboratory. 

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in one of the following discipline areas of the Department: Optimization and Operations Research / Statistics and Data Science / Financial Mathematics / Engineering and Computational Mathematics / Mathematical Science. 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

1. Teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
2. Supervise MPhil and PhD students; 
3. Engage in scholarly research, consultancy and other scholarly activities leading to publications in top-tier refereed journals and award of research grants; and 
4. Undertake academic and departmental administrative duties. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should: 

1. Have a PhD degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Financial Mathematics / Operations Research / Computational Mathematics / Applied Mathematics or a closely related field with strong analytical background;
2. Have expertise in applied statistics, operation research or mathematics;
3. Have an established track record in research and scholarship, including refereed publications and external grant applications;
4. Have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching; and
5. Be highly proficient in written and spoken English. 

Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
