The University of Salford is looking to recruit a senior research technician on a 6-month fixed-term contract from 1st October 2025 until 31st March 2026. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists working on a NERC-funded project exploring the ecological value of urban greenspace (see Job Description for more details). The ideal candidate will have expertise in bacterial genomics and bioinformatics as well as knowledge of classical and molecular microbiology. The post-holder will be primarily responsible for the processing and analysis of whole genome sequences from soil-dwelling and tick-associated pathogens and for the analysis of soil microbiome data. The role will also require incorporation of these data into a much larger dataset of related geographical and ecological information and, working alongside others, using statistical modelling to identify correlations.
The post-holder will join an active and collaborative microbiology group made up of PIs, post-doctoral research fellows, research technicians and post-graduate research students within the Human and Natural Sciences Directorate of the School of Science, Engineering and the Environment.
The role offers a competitive salary and excellent pension scheme, generous leave plus bank holidays and additional time off at Christmas, and flexible working. At The University of Salford, we value diversity, in backgrounds and in experiences. We also recognise the importance of sustainability and have a commitment to be Net Zero by 2038. Our Peel Park campus is unique with lots of green spaces and great transport links including Salford Crescent train station means we're easy to get to.
