Set within UCL’s Faculty of The Built Environment, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class institutes, providing the expert knowledge collaborative research and teaching of UCL Energy Institute, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage and UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources.

About the role

The UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering and the UCL Energy Institute are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching) in Financing Net Zero and Healthy Buildings. This role is central to strengthening teaching in the areas of sustainable finance, healthy building design, and the transition to net-zero carbon in the built environment.

About you

You will have expertise in finance and a strong interest in its application within the built environment. You are passionate about education and committed to inspiring the next generation of professionals working towards a sustainable, net-zero future.

Your teaching and research experience contribute to advancing methodologies in finance, particularly as they relate to sustainable building design, retrofit, and development. You have the capacity to incorporate financial models and methods into your teaching in a way that supports student learning, combining theoretical foundations with practical, real-world applications.

You will be able to teach students on how to evaluate the cost-benefit and health economics implications of indoor environmental strategies linking big data analysis to well-being outcomes and broader societal impacts. This is crucial for understanding the trade-offs and financial implications of improving health and comfort through building design, especially in contexts such as housing, schools and public infrastructure. You will also develop new modules with focus on the economic instruments, funding models, investment strategies driving the transition to sustainable buildings.

You have a demonstrated ability to design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and high-quality teaching, and can adapt your approach to meet the needs of a diverse student body. You are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary learning and can clearly communicate complex financial concepts in the context of sustainability, energy, and health in the built environment.

Your ability to connect financial decision-making with environmental and social outcomes makes you well-placed to contribute to programmes such as the BSc/MEng Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources, and to support students in developing the critical skills required for tackling 21st-century challenges.
