Practice Research Support Manager

Manchester Metropolitan University – Research & Innovation

We're looking for a strategic and creative person to join our Research Excellence team as Practice Research Support Manager. In this pivotal role, you'll champion practice research across Manchester Met, ensuring non-traditional outputs are recognised for their originality, significance, and rigour. The role also offers a significant opportunity to shape and promote the profile of practice research across the wider sector.

What you'll do:

  • Support researchers in developing high-quality digital portfolios for REF and beyond.
  • Document and communicate research processes and insights, transforming them into compelling outputs.
  • Create guidance, toolkits, and training that empower practice researchers to share their work effectively.
  • Build strong internal and external networks to position Manchester Met at the forefront of practice research.
  • Lead services and reporting that ensure our practice research community is fully supported and celebrated.

What we're looking for:

  • Deep knowledge of practice-based research in a higher education context.
  • Experience supporting the development and communication of non-traditional research outputs.
  • Confidence in shaping guidance, policy, and training for diverse research communities.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and external partners.
  • A passion for advancing practice research and embedding it within a dynamic, inclusive research culture.
