/ndiThe opportunity
The Product, Ceramic and Industrial Design programme at Central Saint Martins is looking for a part time lecturer (0.6 FTE) to join our MA Design for Industry 5.0 course team.

At the forefront of new industry, this course centres people and planet in the future of design, technology and manufacturing. Industry 5.0 is a future in which the traditional drivers of efficiency and productivity give way to the ethics of care and human-centred design, while respecting environmental circularity and planetary production limitations.

As a Lecturer, you will:

  • Take a student-centred approach to learning and teaching on the MA Design for Industry 5.0.
  • Work collaboratively to deliver academic units, including both staff-led and student-initiated project briefs, which may involve partnerships with industry.
  • Provide constructive and considered feedback on student work and conduct assessments that are rigorous, clear and fair, in line with University and College policies.
  • Contribute to reducing student attainment gaps, and reflect on teaching practice through the lenses of ethics, anti-racism, the climate emergency and social justice.
  • Foster a positive and caring team dynamic among both staff and students, with a collaborative and friendly attitude.
  • You will work closely with students and be responsible for designing and delivering unit content, teaching, learning and assessment, and pastoral care.

About you
We welcome applications from experienced educators from the fields of Industrial Design, Engineering, Applied Sciences, Manufacturing, socially driven entrepreneurship, the Circular Economy, Service Design and/or Matters of Care, with a demonstrable commitment to the principles of Industry 5.0.

  • We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with expertise in the following areas:
  • Industrial design and manufacturing-oriented social entrepreneurship
  • Social anthropology in relation to industrial design and manufacturing
  • Software, hardware, IoT and robotics in design and manufacturing
  • Applied sciences in cyber-physical technologies
  • User-centred design, circular economy, and planetary concerns
  • Social entrepreneurship and ethical design-led business

Prior experience and awareness of teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level is required. This could include the delivery of workshops, guest lectures and/or conference talks and keynotes.

If you wish to have a discussion about the specific requirements of the role, please do feel free to contact Assa Ashuach, Course Leader MADI5: a.ashuach@csm.arts.ac.uk and Kim Bagley, Acting Programme Director PCID: k.bagley@csm.arts.ac.uk.
