White Rose University Consortium is seeking a proactive and collaborative Researcher Developer (0.6 FTE) to support postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across the White Rose partners, and regional SHAPE early career researchers (ECRs), in close collaboration with York St John University and the British Academy.

Our work complements existing university provision, helping partners achieve their goals and drive positive change.

Role

The Researcher Developer role is an exciting opportunity to support the Head of White Rose and work with cluster co-leads at York St John University, colleagues at the British Academy, and partners across the region to design and deliver tailored support for SHAPE ECRs.

The postholder will contribute to two areas:

1.British Academy Early Career Researcher Network – Yorkshire & Humber Cluster (~0.4 FTE)

  • Work with York St John University, the British Academy, and partners to co-develop a responsive programme of activities and resources.
  • Collaborate with ECRs, academic staff, and professional services to ensure inclusive, impactful support.

2. Support for PGRs across the White Rose Universities (~0.2 FTE)

  • Collaborate with Researcher Developers, PGR Leads, Careers, and Student Unions to address shared needs, particularly for smaller or underrepresented communities (e.g. Arts & Humanities, mature students, Global Majority).
  • Develop collaborative initiatives offering targeted support.

Location

Based in York, with a regional remit across Yorkshire and the Humber. The role offers flexibility for remote working, with occasional travel to partner institutions and events regionally and nationally.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

British Academy Early Career Researcher Network – Yorkshire & Humber Cluster (~0.4 FTE)

  • Build partnerships and identify development opportunities aligned with researcher needs.
  • Design, deliver, and evaluate inclusive training and professional development.
  • Organise and facilitate Cluster events, ensuring smooth delivery.
  • Champion engagement and increase representation of underrepresented groups.
  • Liaise with the British Academy ECRN team and other clusters to share practice.
  • Develop and maintain accessible learning materials and digital content.
  • Produce reports and papers on Cluster activity.

Support for Postgraduate Researchers across the White Rose Universities (~0.2 FTE)

  • Collaborate with Researcher Developers, PGR Leads, Careers, and Student Unions to address shared needs, particularly for smaller or underrepresented communities (e.g. Arts & Humanities, mature students, Global Majority).
  • Design inclusive learning and development solutions that complement university provision while addressing regional and individual needs.
  • Represent White Rose in professional networks and remain informed of trends and best practice.
