The University of Sydney welcomes applications for Education Focused Academics (Sydney Horizon Educators) in the academic disciplines outlined below, during an exciting and innovative time. With the introduction of the new University of Sydney Enterprise Agreement 2023-26, the University has committed to establishing and advertising new continuing education-focused (EF) academic positions across the Faculty of Science.

By offering these education focused roles, the University aims to attract and retain the best and brightest emerging academics, within a specialised category of academic engagement. Positions in this opportunity are for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, educational practice and innovation, and research capability (in disciplinary and/or education-related research). This newly-recruited group of educators will support an uplift in the teaching capability and student experience at the University of Sydney, while also developing as leaders in the education space at the University.
You will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning design, delivery, and evaluation in your specialised field while you also contribute to research in relation to your discipline and/or your educational practice. As part of this role, you will also contribute to the governance, leadership, and engagement work of your employing school, particularly as it relates to education.
Over time, staff appointed to these roles will be supported to engage with professional development opportunities to build their capability to lead change and improvement in teaching and research at the University.
Successful candidates will be expected to dedicate most of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (70%), while also engaging in research (20%) and governance, leadership, and engagement (10%). Successful appointees support, coordinate, and teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework Units of Study. Laboratory tutorial, studio class deliveries, and workshop management and teaching may also be a key part of the roles. These positions may also assist and guide the academic coordinators of other units within the discipline.

Sydney School of Veterinary Science
The Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney welcomes applications from talented tertiary educators for a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor (Education-focused) position in Small Ruminant Health and Production to be based at the Camden campus.
The successful candidate will be a veterinarian with a PhD in Animal or Veterinary Science who is strongly connected with industry (small ruminants) through their research, education and professional networks.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in leading and delivering high-quality, innovative, learner-centred teaching within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and will lead the ongoing curriculum development and implementation in individual animal and population-level skills related to small ruminants including global accreditation preparedness for the school.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record and research program in small ruminant health and production or in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (relative to opportunity) with peer-reviewed research, published or disseminated in high-quality outlets for their discipline.
School of History and Philosophy of Science
The successful candidate will take responsibility for designing, teaching and co-ordinating our interdisciplinary Science Core Unit of Study, SCIE1001: Sydney Science 2050: Towards the Future. This is designed and taught in company with other schools in the Faculty of Science to give students a broad familiarity with the workings and social context of modern science.
The successful candidate will also design, coordinate and teach SCIE4003, Ethics in Science, which takes a broad approach to ethical scientific practice and is also a Faculty of Science Unit of Study. Both these Units are taught twice per year
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field and a track record in peer-reviewed research in their field and/or in scholarship relevant to pedagogy (relative to opportunity) published or disseminated in high-quality outlets for their discipline. Relevant teaching experience would be an advantage. The successful candidate must have legal entitlement to work in Australia
School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES)
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) at The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Animal Physiology to be based at the Camperdown or Camden Campus. The University has significant disciplinary strength in animal and veterinary science, including animal reproduction and genetics, behaviour and welfare, nutrition, agriculture and husbandry, physiology and pathology and applied microbiology and parasitology. The animal and veterinary science units, farms, and veterinary hospitals provide exciting opportunities to study and teach animal physiology in a broad range of animal species and contexts.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Animal or Veterinary Science or related fields, with a focus on production or companion animal physiology and anatomy. This may include various areas of animal physiology, including endocrinology, immunology, neurophysiology, musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory, digestion and urogenital physiology across a broad variety of animal species.
The successful applicant will have an excellent track record in teaching and coordination of large animal and veterinary science-based units (+200 students), a broad professional network in the animal agricultural sector, and experience with work integrated learning. They will coordinate and teach units of study across the school and champion the professional development program in the Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience degree BAVBSc. Teaching may be required across multiple campuses.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record and research program in Animal physiology or in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (relative to opportunity) with peer-reviewed research, published or disseminated in high-quality outlets for their discipline.

They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in research, theory, and laboratory sessions. They will also have demonstrated ability to conduct research and (at all levels, but particularly at Level C and D) a willingness to develop a program of education-related research over time.
