As a member of the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute community, reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will support the Head of Department, Principal Investigators and staff in the Institute to ensure a positive and safe working environment. This is a varied and interesting role working across a broad range of technologies, including genomics, proteomics, MRI, PET imaging and genetic modification. The role will include assisting in the implementation and maintenance of local policies, developing and delivering safety training, conducting safety inspections and accident investigations, carrying out monthly checks on engineering controls, maintaining an adequate supply of safety equipment and some of the administrative processes that support these duties. The post-holder will also assist the Health and Safety Manager in the dissemination of safety information to enable staff to make informed safety decisions, and to foster a proactive and collaborative approach to health and safety in the Institute.

We are looking for someone who is ideally educated to HND level in a Biological or Chemical discipline or equivalent, with previous health and safety experience in a research or technological environment. Previous experience working with radioactive material and Containment Level 2 laboratories would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with people at all levels. They will have good organisational skills and be able to work both independently and as a team player. They will also possess good analytical and problem-solving skills. The successful post holder must be prepared to, on occasion, attend emergencies in the Institute out of hours.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 18 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
