Medical Statistician (Fixed Term)

University of Nottingham - Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit

Location: Nottingham
Salary: £31,387 to £46,485
Hours: Full Time, Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 25th September 2025
Closes: 23rd October 2025
Job Ref: MED230725

Are you looking for a career in a highly successful Clinical Trials Unit, working in dynamic multidisciplinary teams designing and delivering clinical trials that will really make a difference? Then look no further - the Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) is recruiting!

We are a rapidly growing UK Clinical Research Collaboration registered Clinical Trials Unit (http://www.ukcrc-ctu.org.uk) based in the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham. Our mission is to conduct top quality, high impact multicentre clinical trials across a range of health areas which will improve health outcomes. We have a broad, exciting and expanding portfolio of trials including studies evaluating pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, medical devices, and complex interventions. In addition, we conduct methodological work to improve the efficiency and quality of trial design, conduct, analysis and reporting. We are therefore looking to expand our fabulous team of Medical Statisticians.

The successful candidate will contribute to trial design, conduct, analysis and dissemination as a valued member of multidisciplinary trial teams. They will also be given the opportunity to develop (or continue to develop) research interests, contribute to trials methodology research within NCTU, and to contribute to the development and delivery of ‘research methods’ training courses offered by the unit. Please visit https://www.nctu.ac.uk for further details.

The post is available at two levels - Level 4 which would suit statisticians with some experience in the design, set up, analyses and reporting of randomised controlled trials, and Level 4a which would suit candidates with less experience and those who have recently obtained or are expecting to obtain a postgraduate qualification in Medical Statistics this year.

The successful candidate will enjoy many benefits including 30 days annual leave, all bank holidays and 6 additional days when the university is closed, discounted membership to the state-of-the-art sports facilities, extensive training opportunities through the University’s programs, and discounts with various providers.

This is preferably a full-time post (36.25 hours per week). However, applications are invited from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum of 29 hours per week). The post is offered on a fixed-term contract for an initial period of 24 months, with an expectation, given the intention to grow capacity, that this would be extended. The role can be fully office based or open to a hybrid working model with a blended approach of home and office working (typically a minimum of 2 to 3 days pro rata per week on campus).

We recognise the benefits a diverse working environment brings and encourage applications from all individuals. Applicants must complete an online application form indicating which post they are applying for (Level 4a or Level 4) and providing details of how they meet the criteria of the post. Please also indicate whether you wish to work full or part time (if part time please specify how many hours per week you would prefer to work).

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

We welcome informal enquiries. Please contact Christopher Partlett, Assistant Professor of Medical Statistics and Clinical Trials – chris.partlett@nottingham.ac.uk.  Please note that applications sent directly to this e-mail address will not be accepted.
