About the department
Libraries and Student Support Services offer student-centred support across a range of teams to enrich the student experience throughout their academic journey. These teams collaborate with other professional and academic colleagues across the University to deliver a professional, high quality, and customer-focused service aligned with the University’s academic mission and strategic priorities.
The Student Centres play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality student support and guidance within the University. Offering collaborative assistance, the centres provide in-person support for needs that extend beyond digital assistance, aiming to address most issues directly and efficiently, referring students to specialised services when necessary.
Student Centre Officers are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Student Centres as duty managers. They work with a team of Student Centre Advisers and collaborate with specialist teams, maintaining strong relationships with professional and academic colleagues to address student challenges effectively. They serve as an escalation point for complex matters, support training programs, and contribute to retention and progression strategies.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to support the smooth day-to-day operations of our Student Centres, ensuring an excellent service for our diverse student community. This role involves overseeing activities with the Student Centres, providing operational support and guidance to Student Centre Advisers and Student Assistants, and ensuring professional standards are consistently met.
You will play a key role in delivering a welcoming, efficient, and supportive environment for students. This includes maintaining accurate information about services and managing resources. You will work closely with specialist teams and colleagues across the University to identify and address student needs.
As a point of escalation for complex issues, you will handle complaints and queries with empathy and discretion, while also contributing to retention and progression strategies. The role includes supporting the recruitment, training, and supervision of Student Centre staff, as well as assisting in the delivery of training programmes for both staff and students.
The role requires flexibility, with occasional weekend work to support University events such as open days. This is a varied and dynamic role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the student experience, working at the heart of our University’s support services.
At the University of Gloucestershire, we are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community where every student feels valued and empowered. We are also committed to building a diverse and inclusive staff community and welcome applications from currently under-represented sections of our workforce.
