About the role
The Faculty of Music seeks to appoint a Betts Fellow in Organ Studies. The post is offered on an Open-ended basis, commencing from January 2026.
The John Betts Funds was established to commemorate the activities of Mr John Betts as a builder and restorer of organs, and supports musical scholarships and fellowships related to the study of the organ.
The Betts Fellow in Organ Studies is responsible, under the supervision of the Chair of the Betts Committee and the Chair of the Faculty Board, for creating an enhanced profile for organ activities and study at the University of Oxford, and for fostering a community amongst organ scholars across the collegiate University, especially in view of the fact that about 50% of organ scholars are studying subjects other than music.

The postholder will create, administer and publicise a centralised programme of organ events. The responsibilities of this role include organising and running a one- or two-day orientation programme, developing programmes designed to support organ scholars, maintaining the Betts webpage and the various social media feeds.
Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills and knowledge and be an accomplished organ performer and teacher.
