Project Supervisors:
Dr Sam McLean
Prof Beth Fylan
Dr Justine Tomlinson
Jaspreet Sohal
Project Description:
This is a fully funded training programme to conduct research into the potential of pharmacogenomic testing to deliver patient benefit in patients with mental health conditions.
The student will evaluate how pharmacogenomic testing can aid prescribing and deprescribing decisions to improve the care of patients with mental health conditions. The doctoral training fellowship is a result of partnership between the University of Bradford, NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration and Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust.
The PhD student will be based in the Medicines Optimisation group within the School of Pharmacy, Optometry and Medical Sciences at the University of Bradford and will also work for one day per week as a pharmacist in Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust. The PhD has a supervisory team from all partners. The student will be directly involved in patient-facing applied health research, for example through conducting patient and clinician interviews. The student will benefit from working within a thriving multidisciplinary research group delivering innovation and excellence in Medicines Optimisation and Pharmacy Practice research for patient benefit. This project is supported by a major national research centre, the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration, which allows broader networking with other PhD students, researchers and academics nationally.
The PhD position is for a UK-registered pharmacist. Applicants who are General Pharmaceutical Council registered pharmacists will continue to practice clinically at Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust up to 0.2 WTE paid. The PhD studentship is full time and is funded for three years and 3 months (fixed term). The student will receive a stipend (£19,795 p.a., that is exempt from income tax and increases slightly annually in line with UKRI funded stipends).
Must be a fully-qualified Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland, and meet residency requirements to qualify for Home (UK) tuition fees.
