The University of Bedfordshire is proud to be an internationally recognised and award-winning institution with a heritage of quality education going back more than 100 years. With significant climbs made in both the Guardian and Daily Mail University Guides in 2026 (ranking top 10 in the UK in several areas), Bedfordshire has made strong progress across teaching, research, sustainability, and student outcomes through our “Transforming Bedfordshire” strategy. We celebrate the diverse makeup of our University and put our staff and students at the forefront of everything we do. Amidst the current challenging climate of Higher Education, Bedfordshire has faced significant challenges and pressures and met them strategically; we are proud of what we have achieved – and even more ambitious about what’s next.
Following a period of significant change, our next Vice Chancellor will work with the institution to embed new structures, tackle future challenges, and build on a collaborative and energised community based on a strong set of values. They will lead a high-performing, inclusive culture that empowers staff and students and reflects the University’s mission and ambition. As our current strategy to 2026 draws to an end, our new Vice Chancellor will join at the perfect time to plan for the next phase and to leave a lasting impact on this institution. They will work to ensure long-term success and sustainability for the University. With a wealth of exciting opportunities in the region, the University of Bedfordshire is perfectly positioned to be at the heart of development in the local area; our next Vice Chancellor will have the chance to raise our University’s profile externally and grow our profile and partnerships locally.
Ideal candidates will be strategic leaders with senior management experience, gained in either the Higher Education sector or a relevant environment, where they can demonstrate a strong understanding of the Higher Education sector. They will bring real business acumen, a track record of sound financial management, and a pragmatic approach to financial sustainability. Resilience and innovation will be critical, as will a combination of passion, determination, and courage. They will need a strong sense of integrity, coupled with the ability to make complex decisions at pace. In a period of unprecedented change and challenge in the Higher Education sector, the appointee will provide vital leadership, ensuring our University continues to innovate and grow its ethos and culture. This is an opportunity to significantly shape and influence Bedfordshire’s future.
