Shape the Future of Digital Infrastructure at the Heart of a World-Class University.

Join the team driving innovation, reliability, and automation at the University of Plymouth - where your expertise as a DevOps Engineer will help power groundbreaking research, dynamic teaching, and transformative digital services.

About the role

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to help design, automate, and support the secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure that underpins everything we do - from flexible learning environments to cutting-edge research. Reporting to the Infrastructure Services Team Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering services that are available, secure, compliant, and ready for the future.

In this role, you will:

  • Design and deliver hybrid cloud and on-premises solutions using technologies like Microsoft Azure, Nutanix, Rubrik, Microsoft Teams (VoIP), Linux, Juniper and Fortinet.
  • Automate deployments and streamline operations through Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
  • Support and optimise live, development, and test environments, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Resolve complex issues and provide third-line support, collaborating with colleagues and external partners to maintain and improve services.
  • Champion best practice, contributing to continuous improvement, compliance (GDPR, Cyber Essentials), and modern service management standards.

You’ll also take part in our out-of-hours support rota for critical services - ensuring our infrastructure is robust and resilient around the clock.

For this role, you will need to be on site 3 days a week. Although we can accommodate working from home for this role, flexibility to be on-site will be expected due to business needs.
